Year 10 learners from Carr Manor High School have been the first to try collaborative Prezi presentation productions at Leeds CLCs. For the pre-production planning stage of their Video Production unit, learners worked collaboratively in their teams to produce a Prezi presentation that evidenced their planning documentation. There were four teams working on four separate Prezi collaborations simultaneously - without any technical glitches!

Initially learners struggled to communicate effectively well enough to overcome the demands of the task, but after a short problem solving break they overcame the issues and succeeded, and thoroughly enjoyed completing the presentations.

Prezi collaborations are a great way to plan or present any group work, as well as develop team-working, communication and problem solving skills. It is both enjoyable and productive – so please attend the CLC CPD session on collaborative working if you would like to learn and practice how to best use it in the classroom.

View the published Prezis below – not only viewable online but downloadable too.!

Throughout 2011 the children at Hunslet Moor Primary School have worked hard to improve their attendance. Classes competed against each other to be the class with the ‘Best Attendance’ at the end of the year. As an incentive the schools Parent Support Advisor arranged a recording session at South Leeds CLC for the winning class.

Year 6 were the winners and they chose to record Christmas songs that they had written in the weeks leading up to the reward day. The children took it in turns in small groups to work in the recording studio with Kerry Goddard laying down their vocals. The students were given the tracks on cd’s to take home to show to friends and family. To give the cd’s a professional finish the students created Christmas cd covers using Adobe Photoshop.

During the afternoon session the students worked with Chris Burton to produce short movies on the Mac computers. They learnt how to combine images with video footage as well as adding music and sounds effects to create a sound track.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their time at South Leeds CLC and couldn’t wait to get back to school to show off their hard work!

During November & December South CLC invited students from years 5-6 from the JESS cluster of schools to take part in the Creative Arts after school project. Schools get to choose from activities such as Animation, Green Screen Film Projects or Textiles projects which include T-shirt printing or Jewellery making.

This time around children from Windmill Primary & Low Road Primary worked together on a photography project to create banners of their school names. The students learnt how to use a digital camera and took photos of each other which they then manipulated in Adobe Photoshop. The students then were allocated letters to fill with the images they had altered. The finished letters were collected together resulting in photographic masterpieces!
